Abstract

This paper identifies the need for Telecom operators in the competitive environment to become lean. To reduce costs and to focus on the merchant side rather than the technological side of the business as the means of surviving.

Ole Krog Thomsen received his M. Sc. degree in Computer Science from Aarhus University, Denmark in August 1976. In the period from 1976 to 1984 he has had a scholarship at University of Tromsø, Norway, been employed as systems programmer at Terma Elektronik (a manufacturer of naval radar systems), Denmark, and employed as senior lecturer at Aarhus University, Denmark. Since 1984 he has been employed by TDC, Denmark's incumbent telecommunications operator, currently in a position as systems analyst in TDC Solutions, Networks Division, Automation Department. Since 2002 he has also held a position as associate professor (part time) at Aalborg University, Institute of Electronic Systems, where he is teaching Network Management. For a long period he participated sometimes in a leading role in international standardization of Network Management. Currently his main line of activity is concerned with the transition to automatic handling of business processes.
