Outage Probability of Opportunistic Decode-and-Forward Relaying over Correlated Shadowed Fading Channels

Abstract

For opportunistic relaying, different relays are distributed in different locations, so the shadowing between different links is likely to be different and correlated. In this letter, we investigate the effect of correlated log-normal shadowing on the outage probability of opportunistic decode-and-forward relaying. Since there is no closed-form expression for the outage probability, we present a decorrelating transformation and then use Gaussian–Hermite integration technique to evaluate this outage probability. The numerical and simulation results verify that our proposed approach is accurate, and show that the correlation coefficients and standard deviations of shadowing have a significant impact on the outage performance.
