Abstract

Floor layout is one kind of space-planning problem. The problem is to create two-dimensional layouts based on topological, geometrical, functional and aesthetic constraints. Because of the combinationally explosive nature of the search problem, it is impossible to search exhaustively to find a solution. In the paper, a distributed planning model is devised. Constrained inference operators are used for searching and reasoning in the solution space. Interactions between subproblems after incomplete decomposition are eliminated through bargaining and negotiation operators. Some properties of the proposed method are discussed. In the Appendix, an example of house-floor layout produced by developed system is shown.

    Citation Excerpt :

The aims of architecture design courses are to foster students' conceptions of construction, innovation and creation for designing architecture. In-field observations (e.g., observing target buildings in the real world) are important activities for engaging students in inspecting and learning from the work of recognized architects (Cao, He, & Pan, 1990; Liu, 1991). Many scholars have emphasized the importance of situating students in such in-field learning scenarios, which enables them to learn from the real contexts (Shih, Kuo, & Liu, 2012; Tan, Lin, Chu, & Liu, 2012).
