Abstract

General-purpose CAD software running on desktop computers is being increasingly used for a variety of mapping applications, either alongside or instead of specialist mapping software. This paper critically examines the contributions that PC-based CAD software can make to mapping, and identifies some of the problems that exist in adopting such general-purpose software for this specialist application.
