Abstract

Expressions for the tangent and secant numbers are obtained, for n=1, 2,…, 10, in terms of the numbers f(λ) and g_θμη occurring in the representation theory of the symmetric group δ_n. Some explicit results are obtained for g_θμη in certain general cases. Characters of δ_n are obtained, for general n, corresponding to the tangent and secant numbers.
