Optimal value for the Newton-Raphson division algorithm

Abstract

The Newton-Raphson algorithm for the fast division of floating point numbers is described. A new technique is developed to select the optimal initial value for this iterative algorithm. The performance is then compared to traditional techniques in terms of execution time and errors.
