Abstract

There are suggested some hypothetical compensatory relations to be observed within thesauri structures as well as between different types of retrieval languages. Comparisons are conceived on the assumption of functional equivalence given by recall and precision ratios under stabilized state conditions of the corresponding information system. The proposed efforts towards compensation laws in the thesaurus theory are motivated by potential applications in the methodology of thesaurus construction and predictive simulation of retrieval efficiency with various types of retrieval languages and thesauri.
