Abstract

This bibliography lists publications, reports and articles dealing with automated visual inspection for industry, arranged in categories by subject matter. Publications as overviews and general discussions are listed first. Topics on rationales for automating the inspection process, visual inspection system components and design considerations follow. Commercially available visual inspection equipment are presented as a list of selectively annotated references. Publications on various inspection applications and their inspection methodologies are organized into 9 groups. They include the visual inspection of printed circuit boards, IC chips, semiconduction photomasks, automobile parts, fabric and other electrical assemblies, and inspection in the metal processing industry, lumber industry and food processing industry. A set of key words is also provided at the beginning of each category.

Hence, automatic image-based crack detection has attracted wide attention from both academia and industry [1,6]. Image-based crack detection has been studied for more than three decades and is still on-going due to challenging real-world conditions [1,2,6,7]. Early studies focus on image processing approaches, such as thresholding [8], edge detection [5,9], and morphological operations [10].
