Abstract

It is shown, as a complement to Tutte's theorem, that for a given 3-connected graph K which is not a wheel, a graph G is 3-connected and has a subgraph contractible to K if and only if G can be obtained from K by a finite sequence of line-additions and 3-point-splittings.
