Abstract

Perhaps the least appreciated area of modern software technology is top-down development. It is far more than a programming technique suitable for application to an individual work assignment: It is a rich and powerful technique for project implementation and for system integration. The characteristics of the top-down process (executable as a system and self-integrating) suggest that the process may be a foundation of integration engineering.
