Abstract

This article investigates the usefulness of the usual temporal logic for the specification of communication protocols. It will show that a large class of protocol properties cannot be expressed in this logic and proceed to examine the possibility of extending the usual temporal logic such that it can express desired protocol properties. A specification of the Internet Protocol will illustrate the application of the extended logic.
