Abstract

The paper presents exact results for the average customer waiting and sojourn times in Markovian systems comprising a number of finite-capacity queues cyclically attended by several servers. The system behaviour is described using generalized stochastic Petri nets (GSPN), and the performance indices are obtained numerically by means of GreatSPN, the software tool for the analysis of GSPN. The average waiting and sojourn times of customers in Markovian multiserver multiqueue systems are computed exactly in this paper for the first time: they were previously estimated for similar systems by other authors only through approximate models.

Two of them have been used as benchmarks in [14,27] and another model is from [28]. The first one is an availability model, the second one is a polling model from [29] with state independent transition rates, and the third one is a cloud computing model. The properties of these three models are given in Tables 1 and 2.

Many variations of these types of systems have been investigated in the literature since they are quite easy to understand but their analysis is not trivial. Performance analysis of MSMQSs through GSPNs can be found in [2], while SPA models of MSMQSs are considered in [22]. Note that the symmetry in the roles of the servers and the queues is reflected at the net level by the presence of two subnets.
