Abstract

This paper provides a methodology for evaluating the cost effectiveness of anti-viral scanners using financial methods and taking in consideration an organization's cost of capital, anti-viral program cost, the program life, the probability of attack, the organization's tax rate, and the yearly monetary saving the program will provide. While the examples use US tax rates, the techniques presented are not country specific.
