Abstract

An optimal tool replacement problem for a machining center (MC) in a flexible manufacturing cell or system (FMS) is discussed. This problem is formulated as an undiscounted Markov renewal program. Structural properties of an optimal tool replacement policy are shown, which would shed additional light on developing efficient computational algorithms for finding an optimal replacement policy.
