A fast algorithm for encoding the image structure by edge directions

Abstract

A parameter free method is proposed to obtain an easy interpretable representation of an image. Only few locally parallel integer operations on 3 × 3 matrices are required. The result is an image structure matrix containing for each pixel approximated step height and directional encoded local course of grey level discontinuity.
