It is based on a new concept, called rough-fuzzy connectedness, introduced in this paper. The rough-fuzzy connectedness judiciously integrates the merits of rough sets [17,20] for the extraction of fuzzy connected object [3,6,21,24,31]. The rough-fuzzy connectedness framework aims to deal with the ambiguity at the brain surface as well as the graded composition of tissues within the brain area.
