Abstract

Firstly, the results of a survey made within the CNET center, trying to specify the real conditions of use of office communicating machines, are presented. The devices used were communicating word processors, telex terminals, teletex terminals, fascimile devices. The users population was 65 secretaries or typists. The results show that there is a big gap between the communication capacities and the use of electronic tools. The factors which could explain this under-utilization are analyzed according to three aspects: technical, ergonomic and organizational.

Secondly, hardware and software developments presently being carried out at the CNET to solve some existing problems encountered by users are presented. Finally, the question of integrating socio-technical criteria into these technical realizations is examined.
