Abstract

Paper forms are a widely used mean to collect and communicate data in the office environment. As a consequence, they are a very natural type of user requirements and an effective starting point in data base design of office applications. In the paper a methodology for conceptual design of office data bases is described. It assumes forms as input documents to express requirements and produces as the result of the design process an Entity Relationship conceptual schema. Strategies are proposed to extract from the initial requirements conceptual structures and integrate them into a global description.
