Situating Information Literacy: A Case Study Exploring Faculty Knowledge of National Disciplinary Standards and Local Program Learning Outcomes
2022, Journal of Academic LibrarianshipCitation Excerpt :When investigating faculty perspectives of IL, many researchers have utilized validated epistemological frameworks that group disciplines based on how they value, conduct, and pursue different types of knowledge (Simpson, 2017). These frameworks have been applied in LIS literature (McGrath, 1978; Whitmire, 2002; Swarat et al., 2017; Faulkner & Ford-Baxter, 2021) to investigate a variety of topics, including how learning outcomes are developed and assessed by faculty (Swarat et al., 2017). Faulkner and Ford-Baxter (2021) found after coding 29 national disciplinary standards for the Framework frames and analyzing them within an epistemology framework that the Framework's language was more closely aligned with pure-soft disciplines like the social sciences and arts.
