Abstract

A processor for managing files and procedures for accessing these files are described. When attached to a peripheral device such a system transfers a large part of file processing from the central processing unit to the peripheral devices.

The use of new hardware, such as microprocessors, together with techniques of structured programming, facilitates the building of specialized processors.
