Abstract

In this paper a network and its development are described, along with a summary of research work aimed at distributed database support based on the network. The network was developed on a low budget, with few programmers, using as a basis the DECNET proprietary system and protocols.

It is hoped that the paper will indicate useful approaches to implementation and show that a viable system can be produced within low budget and manpower constraints. Also the system contains features that endow it with good potential for growth and evolution for resource sharing and multi-hosting.
