Abstract

Education and Training (E & T) is one of the groups of the Information and Software Technology sector within Philips Research. The IST sector is located in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. E & T provides for education and training of the professional software developers within Philips.

The two most important courses in the area of basic education are the CSO (Course on Software Development) and CSE (Course on Software Engineering). The CSO covers advanced programming methodology (computing science; programming-in-the-small) and shows the application of this methodology in larger systems. The basic knowledge as presented by the CSO should be supplemented by knowledge of and skills in `programming-in-the-large'. This is taught in the CSE.
