Abstract

Multi-scale modelling integrates phenomena operating at several spatio-temporal scales into a single model formulation. It is particularly suited to complex biological systems, whose processes operate from the molecular and sub-cellular scales, through to the whole-organ level and beyond. An overview of multi-scale modelling approaches applied to biology is presented, focussing on a case-study in cardiac electromechanics.
