Abstract

This article describes the main services provided by the most popular cloud infrastructures currently in use. The systems presented in this article are either public clouds Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure and IBM Bluemix or private clouds OpenStack, OpenNebula and Eucalyptus. The formers provide a variety of services that implement all the three main cloud service models (IaaS, PaaS and SaaS), while the latters are focused on the IaaS model, as they provide services for the management of large pools of processing, storage, and networking resources in a data center, by exploiting a variety of virtualization techniques.

These include cluster computing, grid computing, and, most recently, cloud computing (Buyya, Yeo, & Venugopal, 2008; Low, Chen, & Wu, 2011). Cloud computing, which refers to the applications delivered as services over the Internet and also the hardware and software in the data centers that provide these services, has transformed the industrial IT ecosystem (Marozzo, 2019; Armbrust et al., 2009). Cloud computing is seen by most industry analysts and observers as a disruptive technology, and the one that keeps changing not only the way in which enterprises conduct business, but also their operating models and knowledge (Sridhar, 2016).
Rapid advances in cloud computing have seen infrastructure as a service (IaaS) become an essential service paradigm for enterprises. However, the assessment indicators of cloud-computing services are incomplete. This research is based on an updated information system success model. Perceived value is utilized to form the research structure, and this is modified according to resource dependence theory and transaction cost theory. These assessment indicators were examined by experts using the Delphi technique. The results demonstrate that data backup, high availability, confidentiality, and overall value are the most important factors for cloud-computing services.
