The article describes data storage methods and discusses representation issues in the context of handling biological/genomic data. In particular, it overviews some challenges and opportunities, it overviews some data-models and, eventually, it focuses on the concept of biological networks by discussing their application in a number of concrete biological domains. The exposition refers the reader to several publicly available datasets for experimenting with biological/genomic data.
