The paper entitled “Optimal Initial State for Fast Parameter Estimation in Nonlinear Dynamical Systems” by Denis-Vidal et al. is the first article. It presents a novel means of determining the initial condition to enable rapid, identifiable model identification in nonlinear dynamical systems. A general paper it examines the often overlooked issues around determining initial conditions when they are non-zero and necessary for effective identification.

Kolditz et al. present the first of the papers in the area of application of identified models for patient benefit. This paper, entitled “Evaluation of Foot Position and Orientation as Manipulated Variables to Control External knee Adduction Moments in Leg =Extension training”, uses patient specific models of gait and leg motion with a goal towards optimising therapy.
