Abstract:
This document addresses the problem of selecting a sensor set to be installed in a given system, such that the estimation ability provided by the sensor set is minimally impacted by the loss (detected failure) of any one of those sensors. The metrics utilized to quantify the estimation ability are defined based on the Kalman-filter covariance matrix and provide an assessment of the degree of observability during transient response.
