Abstract:

This paper presents experimental results of practical implementation of three higher -order sliding-mode control algorithms. The considered algorithms are applied to the position control of an engine air path mechatronic actuator. This actuator is used to control the swirl air entering the cylinders of a diesel engine. Three output-feedback second order sliding-mode controllers have been designed and tested on the actuator. The most effective strategies have been tested for robustness in varying temperature and load conditions. The experimental results show the effectiveness and robustness of the control techniques.
