Abstract:

An optical wireless bistable micro-actuator is presented on this paper. It is based on antagonistic beams with wireless actuation of shape memory alloy (SMA) active elements that permit the switch of the beams. The mechanical and mathematical models of the bistable actuator are presented. A laser is used to increase the temperature of the SMA and ensure the switch between stable positions. An optimization of the switch time is done through the control of the temperature around the micro-actuator. The experimental test is done using a white LED whose intensity can be controlled and which reduces the switch time by 70% compared to previous setup at room temperature.
