Abstract:

In this study, eye movements measured from 2 categories, i.e., tennis experts and beginners are compared and analyzed as regarding eye movement as a kind of motion skills. Subjects in the both categories are instructed as anticipating “inside-out shot” or “down-the-line shot” from movies of expert tennis players' forehand shot. This paper focuses on analyzing the eye movement between the 2 categories quantitatively. A time-series data of gaze points are measured from each subject using an eye-tracking device. They are analyzed by doing a significant test after they are transformed using a simple parametric model of the tennis forehand shot. We observed a difference between the experts and beginners as one of experimental results, i.e. that the beginners have a tendency to follow a tennis ball unconsciously for a moment after the players in the movies shot the ball.
