Abstract:

In this research, we propose the assessment navigation system "NAVI-BOY" which supports user/students at social educational facilities, that is, museums and art galleries. We implement a prototype system of NAVI-BOY. Most social educational facilities employ the pamphlet of paper media for navigation such as exhibition introduction and guidance. Recently, there are also many guidance systems in which voice navigations inform users of information including seeing route via earphones. However, it is just the auxiliary function of paper media. It is impossible for paper media to express and explain dynamically. Moreover, even if paper media can show a map of the institution, users sometimes cannot know where they are because some museums have too complicated route. To solve the problems and limitations which paper media have, we propose the navigation system "NAVI-BOY" using the handheld game machine and develop the prototype. "NAVI-BOY" has an "amusement" sense and a "computer game" sense with navigation function/evaluation function. The NAVI-BOY is a novel study support system in social educational facilities.
