Computer vision has found applicability in a wide variety of industrial applications. These include surveillance and security, industrial inspection and automation, medical and automotive. This paper gives an overview of the work performed at Siemens Corporate Research in these areas. Some of the basic technologies that are needed for such applications are highlighted along with a brief overview of the particular constraints existing in such applications. Then, our view of the systems methodology required in order to build robust, scalable and reusable systems and modules is presented. Finally, we present our view of the future directions in this field.
