Abstract:
Analysis shows that one of the fundamental parts of the Internet world is the Domain Name System (DNS) Server which impact browsing speed, website performance and email clients. It is a database that translates user-friendly hostnames into a numerical format known as IP addresses. The conventional DNS system has many flaws: single-point failure, centralized orchestration, security and scalability problems. Research shows that decentralization and security are the inherent properties of Blockchain technology which can countermeasure the chronic issues of DNS Servers. In this article, we have proposed an improved load-balancing model based on the use of M/M/k model, Poisson distribution and Exponential distribution. The method of improvement of a Blockchain-based DNS system lies in the use of distributed nodes in decentralized way. This model will allow the system to be scalable by ensuring even load distribution in each shard. A comparison analysis showed that the proposed system is outperforming DNS requests as compared to the existing load balancing solutions i.e. Round-robin (RR) and weighted Round-robin (WRR). Results of the system simulation are provided as well as recommendations for use of a new proposed model are given.
