Abstract:

How do people celebrate festivals for children during important festivals, like the Children's Day and Chinese New Year? The way of celebration could uncover people's value transmitted to children. We analyzed the messages of how people celebrate for children on Sina Microblog during the Children's Day (Study 1) and the Spring Festival (Study 2) in 2018. Results have shown that the number of messages containing both children related words and money related words reached a peak on the eve and the day of the festival. However, there are no such a peak effect for messages containing both children related words and meaning related words. These results suggest that Chinese society is inundated with materialistic values, and they haven't realized that this materialistic value would be harmful for children's psychological health and well-being.
