Abstract:

This study is to discuss the law thaf'moxibustion can be used for heat syndrome" for the treatment of Bell's palsy. We conducted an analysis of the treatment of the Bell's palsy patients who are identified as wind-cold syndrome and wind-heat syndrome by Heat-Sensitization Moxibustion and estimate the recovery situation of facial nerve function by FDI and Burres-Fisch score, which are the most widely used methods. We had found that all the symptoms were ameliorated obviously with statistical difference when assessed by FDI Social, Well-being Function Subscale, FDI Physical Function Subscale and B-F score (p<;0.05), but neither on the frequency of acupoint heat-sensitization phenomenon (p>0.05) nor on these scores after taking the treatment between two symptoms (p>0.05). Thus we concluded that there was not statistical difference between wind-cold syndrome and wind-heat syndrome of the Bell's palsy patients when compared on the frequency of heat-sensitization phenomenon and clinical efficacy which meant that "moxibustion could be used for heat syndrome" in the treatment of Bell's palsy and had definite therapeutic effect.
