Abstract:
ASEAN region is currently in a unique position from the perspective of air traffic management. It comprises a large amount of independent states with limited collaboration between air traffic regulators; large aquatic zones often make air travel the only viable option, creating high demand for denser air traffic; on the other hand, there is low visibility of the air traffic over the water zones. As a result, there is a lack of the big picture of air traffic in the region, and sub-optimal air traffic configuration. This work introduces a real time tool for visual exploratory data analysis of the air traffic data that facilitates understanding of the regional air traffic dynamics. We discuss and estimate several spatial data analysis algorithms aimed at fast (real time) and crude results that are ideal for exploratory visual analysis of large spatial datasets.
