Abstract:

Location information can reduce the complexity of vertical handover decision algorithms by means of reducing the subset of candidate networks. In this sense, GPS is commonly suggested to obtain nodes position. However, energy consumption of GPS systems can be reduced if nodes are assisted by localization algorithms, where only a smaller subset of nodes provide GPS location information. In this paper we provide a performance evaluation of a well-known and low-complex signal strength localization algorithm in mobile environments. Our simulation results show the decreasing accuracy produced by nodes mobility when synchronization is not provided. Furthermore, we assess the impact of the angle diversity of anchor nodes in a street mobility pattern scenario.
