Abstract:
The emergence of the 5G era promises ubiquitous, reliable and high-quality telecommunication service provision. The accomplishment of this promise is not possible if the reliable and efficient service of the mobile users at the cell edges is not guaranteed. For this purpose, the effect of the JT CoMP (Joint Transmission Coordinated Multipoint) technique in a small cell C-RAN (Cloud Radio Access Network) network combined with a coalition formation algorithm from a system level perspective is examined. JT CoMP mitigates the inter-cell interference to improve the coverage of high data rate services, cell-edge throughput, and system capacity, while the algorithm provides the clustering considering at the same time multiple network performance constraints. The proposed scheme's performance metrics are then compared with the corresponding metrics of the conventional JT CoMP and the non-CoMP case, confirming its superiority regarding the aforementioned challenges.
