Abstract:

Intermittent connectivity and the absence of an end-to-end path from source to destination are two main features of emergency communication in disaster cases. With damaged critical infrastructure mobile terminals encounter disrupted communication availability. This paper provides a mathematical model and evaluates its efficiency through simulation for the uplink transmission in Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANET) in such scenarios. The duration of the transmitted packets, the speed of the mobile nodes, the transmission range and the distance between the connected road side units have a strong influence on the link efficiency. In this respect, this paper elaborates on a simple connectionless scheme, towards studying the probability of success for the uplink in regards to changes in the studied parameters based on mathematical formulas. The results are verified using a MATLAB simulation.
