Abstract:

A femtocell offers increased coverage and capacity in both home and office environments because these low power home based access points are going to change the landscape of mobile technology and the networking business in the coming years. Therefore, deployment of a femtocell in the existing macrocell networks and in 4th generation (4G) networks will significantly increase. The objective of this paper is to propose different Local IP Access (LIPA) solutions for 3rd and 4th generation femtocell architectures based on 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) specifications, and also examine the impact of LIPA-enabled femtocell architectural changes on the service delivery to end-users.
