Abstract:
RF energy harvesters are gaining popularity as an energy source for Internet of Things cloud edge devices and also as core circuit of IoT wake-up radio sub-system. The impact of design component parameters on output voltage and power conversion efficiency of multi-stage RF rectifiers is presented. Performance of classical Dickson and Villard rectifier topologies, using both on-chip integrated circuit technologies and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) off-chip electronics components are studied. Different performances due to design variables such as circuit architecture, diode forward voltage, diode junction capacitance, and capacitance-per-stage are compared and contrasted. Lastly, a decision tree based on different design priority and requirement is proposed.
