Abstract:

The manipulation and measurement of quantum dynamics are often performed with respect to the spectral properties of the system to be controlled. However, such frequency-domain characteristic were rarely incorporated in the modeling and synthesis, which were usually done in the time domain. This paper proposes a frequency-domain model for a class of open quantum systems in which the control is achieved by engineering the spectral properties of the environment. The resulting description is fully algebraic in the frequency domain under only Born approximation, from which the role of classical control and quantum fluctuations can be clearly understood. This approach opens up a new way of designing quantum control for more generalized open systems with non-Markovian behavior.
