Abstract:

This project explores the use of evolutionary computation to design two-dimensional artwork in the Supermatist style. Using OpenGL libraries for rendering and GAUL for the evolutionary component, GAUGUIN allows the user to create art, without requiring any technical or artistic training. In using an evolutionary process to create the composition, all the user needs to do is evaluate a number of possible creations to explore the design space. The work presented here illustrates the prototype system and examples of the art that may be created with it. Further work will extend the design space to allow a wider range of possibilities and enhance the user-interface to allow more flexibility in design.
