Abstract:

A 0.5μm-CMOS-process optimum torque (OT) control integrated circuit (IC) with an active area of 0.35mm2 is implemented for harvesting the most available energy from and prolonging the lifetime of a wind turbine generator (WTG) in a wind energy conversion system (WECS). This pioneering custom-designed analog IC with low power consumption can be applied to wide power range WECS applications. It achieves over 99% maximum power point tracking (MPPT) accuracy, 96.1% peak power conversion efficiency, 0.99 power factor, and 1.7% current total harmonic distortion (THDi) based on a 200W WECS. Compared with state-of-the-arts, this work with well-designed circuit linearity has better power conversion efficiency and THDi.
