Abstract:

Developing countries can take advantage from the adoption of applications that automate the scheduling of public transportation. However, the adopted solutions must suit the peculiarities of those countries, in particular the very dynamic situation of the road and of the traffic, and also the specific management of drivers. Moreover, the solutions should have an affordable cost for this kind of countries. In this paper we present an approach to transportation scheduling based on software agents, which we developed for Buenos Aires in Argentina. The results of the application of our approach show that the scheduled departures are very close to the desired ones, respect different constraints and are produced in a short time.
