In this paper we consider improving the effectiveness of video transmission with the help of high layer coding. We show that the unequal error protection of parts of video stream of different importance with the help of high layer coding could be more beneficial under hard erasure channel conditions. We also show that applying even short codes with low complexity decoding at high network layers can provide significant improvements in the received video quality.
