Abstract:

This paper proposes a new method of estimating selected parameters of PMDC motor. Parameter estimation is required when complete information is not available. Usually, friction is neglected in the model of DC motor. But where precision is required, it cannot be ignored. Damping plus Coulomb friction model is selected for the purpose of this paper. These non-linearitires are estimated using curve fitting tool of MATLAB. A unique method is proposed to estimate moment of inertia which is a parameter that varies with load. Estimation of moment of inertia is done in two steps: bisection method and gradient descent method.
