Abstract:

A circularly polarized antenna array with parasitic patches and metallic pins for wide beam scanning is proposed in this work, which realizes a good circularly-polarized (CP) performance. Firstly, in order to excite the CP radiated fields, a truncated rectangular patch is employed. Secondly, the stacked rectangular patch antenna with an array of four metallic pins are introduced in order to widen its axial ratio (AR) bandwidth and half-power beamwidth simultaneously. Finally, the proposed antenna is arranged as an 8-element linear array, and its simulated results show that the beam scanning performance of the CP array can be ranged from -45°~+75°. At the same time, it keeps a low profile of around 0.06λ0 (λ0 is the free space wavelength).
