Abstract:

This paper presents a compact, low profile, and lightweight broadband microstrip antenna for satellite (Ku band) applications. The suggested antenna attains a frequency bandwidth of 2.67 GHz desirable for the receive and transmit modes of Fixed Satellite Service (FSS). The antenna structure is carefully designed and optimized using HFSS software, where the FR4 epoxy is used as substrate material with a total volume of 20 \times 20\times 1.6mm^{3}. The attained results show that the design antenna has a broad bandwidth from 11.99 GHz to 14.66 GHz (\mathbf{at}\ -10dB) with a resonance frequency at 12.39 GHz and a low reflection coefficient (\vert S_{11}\vert) of -35.77 dB. The suggested design is assessed using several parameters as \vert S_{11}\vert, Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR), gain, radiation efficiency and radiation pattern. The suggested design antenna is a good option for satellite applications.
