Abstract:
Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) represent a major advancement in maritime technology, promising improved efficiency, safety, and flexibility. This paper presents a simplified 3-degree of freedom (DOF) maneuverability simulation model for MASS, balancing complexity and computational efficiency to optimize control strategies and ensure reliable autonomous navigation. The model is compared with a more complex reference model to evaluate performance, focusing on integration into route planning and motion control systems. Simulations, including ZIG-ZAG and turning circle maneuvers, demonstrate the model’s accuracy and efficiency in predicting vessel behavior.
